Professor Wai-Ching Lam is Head and Medical Director of the Ophthalmology Department at Vancouver General Hospital and University British Columbia Hospital. He is also Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
 

Between 2016 and 2022, he was Clinical Professor and Albert Bing-Ching Young Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Hong Kong, as well as Chief of Service in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital in Shenzhen, China and Queen Mary/Grantham Hospital in Hong Kong.


From 1996 to 2016, Professor Lam held various positions at the University of Toronto: Residency Program Director (2001–2013), Vice Chair of Education (2013–2016), Continuing Education Director (1996–2016), and Vitreo-retinal Fellowship Director (2002–2016).


Professor Lam is a vitreo-retinal surgeon with clinical interests in adult and pediatric retinal diseases. His clinical and scientific work has been recognized with accolades, including the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, and Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
 

He is a council member of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society and an editorial board member of Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles, authored 7 book chapters, and co-edited the book, “A Quick Guide to Pediatric Retina”, which was published by Springer Nature in 2021.
