Professor Wai-Ching Lam is Clinical Professor and Chief of Service of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, and Queen Mary and Grantham Hospitals in Hong Kong.


After completing his vitreoretinal fellowship, Professor Lam joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He later moved to the University of Toronto where he served as Vice Chair of Education, Continuing Education Director, Residency Program Director, and the Vitreoretinal Fellowship Director.


Professor Lam is a vitreoretinal surgeon with clinical interests in adult and pediatric retinal diseases. For his clinical and scientific work, he received the Achievement Award from the AAO and the APAO, and the Fellow of the American Society of Retinal Specialists.


His professional associations include serving as a council member of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society and a member of the editorial board of Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology.


He has received 16 teaching awards and published 110 peer-reviewed articles, including many in the field of medical education. He has also authored 7 book chapters and co-edited a new book, “A Quick Guide to Pediatric Retina”, published by Springer Nature in 2021.
