Professor Gemmy Cheung is currently Professor and Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre, Duke-NUS Medical School, National University of Singapore. She is Head of the Medical Retina Department and the Retina Research Group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. Her research interests are in Asian retinal diseases, specifically age-related macular degeneration (AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), and myopic macular degeneration.
 
Professor Cheung has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, mostly in AMD and PCV, and has been principal investigator for a number of clinical trials in anti-VEGF therapies. She is principal investigator for two ongoing large research programs funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council and Biomedical Research council. She has given over 100 invited lectures and served as Instructor on courses at the APAO and AAO congresses.
 
Professor Cheung has received several prestigious awards, including the Secretariat Award and Achievement Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Macula Society’s Young Investigator Award, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement award, the Nakajima Award, and the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award.
