Professor Francesco Viola is currently Director of the Operative Unit of Ophthalmology at the Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda, Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Milan, Italy. He received his degree in medicine and surgery and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Brescia in Italy. He also completed a research fellowship in retina at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, with Professor Donald J. D’Amico.

 

Professor Viola’s major research interests are degenerative and vascular retinal and choroidal diseases, with a particular interest in the study of imaging techniques in ophthalmology as well as in clinical trial design and analysis.

 

He has participated as a principal investigator in more than 40 international randomized, multicenter clinical trials (Phases II and III), and has authored more than 100 book chapters and articles in major international peer-reviewed journals.
