Dr. Youxin Chen, MD, currently serves as Director and Professor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing, China. Dr. Chen graduated from the Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China, in 1986, and earned his MD from Peking Union Medical College in 1996. He also spent 2 years undertaking postdoctoral research at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California, USA.

 

In his practice, Dr. Chen pioneered the research on choroidal angiography in China and accumulated rich experience in diagnosis and treatment of complicated ocular fundus disorder. Photodynamic therapy and anti-VEGF therapy were also part of his area of expertise. In addition, Dr. Chen has been actively engaged in scientific research and clinical trials. The Clinical and Basic Research in Dacryology study won second prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, and the international multicenter clinical trials ‘Brilliance’ and ‘VIVID EAST’, in which Dr. Chen served as principal investigator, also achieved satisfactory outcomes.

 

To date, Dr. Chen has published more than 70 articles in domestic and international journals. He is also the general secretary of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society and Vice President of the Chinese Ophthalmological Association. For his efforts to promote the development of ophthalmology in China and the Asia-Pacific region, Dr. Chen was presented with the Distinguished Service Award and the Achievement Award by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology in 2008 and 2016.
