Dr. Varun Chaudhary

Dr. Chaudhary is a vitreoretinal surgeon, chief of ophthalmology, and professor of surgery at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.

 

As a researcher, he has secured multiple peer-reviewed grants for research in teleophthalmology, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and posterior segment drug delivery systems. He sits on global steering committees for multinational clinical trials in retina and is the site Principal Investigator for the international DRCR Network. He is also co-chair of the Canadian Retina Research Network (CR2N). Additionally, Dr. Chaudhary supervises master’s-level thesis students in translational retinal research in the Department of Engineering and in clinical research in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University. He has also been appointed Associate Member of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering. 

 

Dr. Chaudhary has been an invited keynote speaker and guest lecturer at universities nationally and at meetings of international ophthalmology associations globally. He was awarded the Senior Honor Award by the American Society of Retina Specialists in 2018. Dr. Chaudhary is also Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

 

His administrative experience extends to the provincial level as regional physician lead for ophthalmology and as clinical advisor for multiple provincial ophthalmology working groups. At the national level, he is CPD Director and board member of the Canadian Retina Society, CPD council member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, and MAC member of the Retina Foundation of Canada.
