Dr. Francisco J. Rodríguez is the Scientific Director of the Fundación Oftalmológica Nacional and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Universidad del Rosario School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia.

 

He received his medical degree from the Universidad del Rosario School of Medicine in 1986, and carried out his ophthalmology residency at the Fundación Oftalmológica Nacional. Dr. Rodríguez then completed a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA, Los Angeles, California, USA, and a medical retina fellowship at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York. This was followed by an electrophysiology / hereditary retinal diseases fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Florida.

 

Dr. Rodríguez has participated as principal investigator in several clinical trials, and has received several awards, including the National Academy of Medicine Award in 1997. He has more than 90 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals and has authored several chapters in retina books.

 

Dr. Rodríguez’s research interests include diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema, AMD, retinal vein occlusion, central serous chorioretinopathy, interface vitreoretinal abnormalities, and retinal detachment.
