Professor Timothy Lai is currently Clinical Professor (Honorary) in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Director of the 2010 Retina and Macula Centre in Hong Kong. His clinical and research interests lie in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, particularly polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, choroidal neovascularization, central serous chorioretinopathy, and myopic maculopathy, as well as in genetics of retinal diseases and uveitis. He has served as a Principal Investigator in over 25 multicenter clinical trials for the treatment of retinal diseases and uveitis.
Professor Lai has published over 250 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has a Scopus h-index of 52. His academic achievements are well-recognized globally having received many international awards, including the 2008 Nakajima Award of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), the 2017 Senior Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the 2017 Constable Lecture Award of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS), and the 2018 Senior Achievement Award of the APAO.
Professor Lai serves on the editorial boards of over 10 international ophthalmic journals, including Retina, Eye, Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology, Ophthalmologica, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology. His other leadership roles include Vice President of APVRS, Chair of the AAO Global ONE advisory board, and Section Chair of the International Ocular Inflammation Society.
