Professor Marta S. Figueroa is the Medical Director of Vissum Madrid. She is also Chief of the Vitreoretinal Department at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal, Principal Investigator of the Ramón y Cajal Health Research Institute, and Professor at the University of Alcalá de Henares.
After studying medicine at Complutense University, Professor Figueroa completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal; she subsequently achieved her PhD degree from the University of Alcalá de Henares.
Professor Figueroa has been President of the Retinaplus+ Foundation since 2014 and she is former President of the Spanish Vitreoretinal Society, where she is currently a member of the board.
Professor Figueroa’s main areas of expertise are retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular surgery, trauma, AMD, vein occlusions, and high myopia. She is the author of more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. Professor Figueroa has given more than 500 conferences on different surgical and medical topics and serves on several editorial boards, in addition to holding the position of Associate Editor of the Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases.
