Professor of Ophthalmology, American University of Beirut, Lebanon
Ziad Bashshur is Professor of Ophthalmology at the American University of Beirut (AUB), and is also a full-time attending retina specialist at the AUB medical center with research and teaching responsibilities. His main clinical focus is vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, and his major research interest is in retinal vascular disease, in particular wet age-related macular degeneration.
In addition to obtaining his medical degree and completing his ophthalmology residency at the AUB, Dr. Bashshur also completed an internship in internal medicine at Georgetown, Virginia medical center and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Virginia, USA.
Dr. Bashshur sits on several advisory boards within the medical industry and has spoken at a number of professional meetings worldwide. He has authored over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and is a reviewer for several ophthalmology journals including Retina, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and JAMA Ophthalmology.
